Cultivation Freesia


Only in some areas of this flower can grow well, character and beauty of this flower, makes some people from countries that are engaged in cut flower business wants to plant these flowers in their area, whereas terms of plant growth is very difficult.  
In general, this plant comes from southern Africa, freesia has a genus of about fifteen species of plants, all small corms are round, the variables measuring between 2-3 cm. Every single petal produces a beam of tiny leaves, has a shape like a ribbon, the stems erect, rather stiff, fleshy, the leaves of this plant is light green. In the summer the center of the leaves will spread and thin upright stems, branches will be reduced and bearing small trumpet flowers, gathered in curved panicle. The smell of the flowers are very fragrant and has a yellowish or greenish-white color. 





 

With growing knowledge about the cultivation of plants, there are many cultivars, which can produce very large flowers or flowering compact. Freesia hybrid can bring a variety of colors, from white to yellow, from pink to blue and from red to orange. Freesia is not only used in the garden or as cut flowers, but also in the cosmetics industry.  
Growing environment of this flower is a bright spot, where little sunlight can cause the failure of flowering. This interest afraid of cold, so if you are in an area with winter should be planted in pots, to protect container in a sheltered during the winter or in autumn and then stored in a cool, dark and dry until next spring. Watering of plants was conducted from June to July until the end of flowering. If the soil is dry, should be watered every 3-4 days from the time the leaves begin to wilt. In the growing season to provide fertilizer for flowering plants, dissolved in normal waterings, every 10-15 days.  
Planting medium should chosse soil is soft and deep, well drained, you must use the universal soil, mixed well with the sand and manure matured a little. Multiplication is by seed in spring, the freesia corms tend over time to produce a small corms, which can be extracted to be cultivated individually. Pests or diseases that these plants often ataccked is root rot, therefore sterilization of growing media needs to be done for prevention.
