Gloriosa superba Linn

This plant can be found growing wild in the bush, teak forests. Originally from the tropics in Asia and Africa, like the open exposed to full sun. Diligent flowering especially early in the rainy season, and is known to have rhizomes that are toxic, long-lived annual Herbaceous plant, climbing, reaching 2.5 m tall, branching wide. The trunk is soft, climbing by tendrils contained leaf tip. Single leaf shape lanceolate, pointed tip, base of the stem hugging, edge of the flat, 8-25 cm long, 1-4 cm wide, green, round flower buds elongated, long-stemmed, sharp edges facing down. When blooming, the flowers will turn up, crown-shaped flowers of six clubs, the top color is red, yellow-green base. Flower color red over time will be faster overall and did not wilt. Fruit 4-5 cm in length. Seeds many, red-orange color. Its roots have a horizontal rhizome and large.

Multiplication with chemical scarification (eg with 1% hypochlorite) or a reduction in cleaning seed dormancy in connection sarkotesta breech of 6-9 months to about four months, and accelerate the germination of 29-30 days to 11-15 days. Figures as high as 97% germination achieved in the seedlings were incubated at 20-250C over a period of 31 days. Vegetative propagation with regular bulbs do, but not suitable for planting on a large scale. The maximum number of Earring anang per plant resulted in two. Tuber dormancy can be overcome from immersion in water mixed with air constantly. In the small tubers were found to have a higher multiplication than larger bulbs. The results obtained from the seed tubers heavier than 7 g.; Research with using Murashige and Skoog medium plus 0.1 mg / l indole acetic acid gives results. But, clonal plants do not produce flowers on the first vegetative phase, but produce small tubers which can be used for vegetative propagation.; for planting on a small scale, 50-60 g tubers, planted with a distance of 30-45 cm in soil with a good planting depth of 6 cm at 45-60 cm apart grooves. The distance of the approaching giving out a higher percentage of cross-pollination results in increased yield of seed supplies of the most well. Media 1:1:2 mixture of soil, sand and compost. In Thailand, the optimum fertilizer rate (13-13-21) for optimal growth of seedlings and tubers weight about 250 kg / ha.

Overall, breech flowers grow well in the great rainy season, prevents the humid tropics. This plant is locally common in the thickets, hedgerows, and open forest with a height of 300 (-600) m altitude. This plant can be found flowering and fruiting throughout the year, although more flowers during the rainy season.
