Character of amorphophallus:
amorphophallus is a typical lowland plants that grow in tropical and subtropical climates ranging from western Africa to the Pacific Islands, including Indonesia. Mostly, dead flowers are endemic species.
Amorphophallus experienced two phases of his life which took place alternately and continuously, the phase of vegetative and generative phase. In the vegetative phase on carrion flower bulbs grow a single stem and leaf-like leaves of papaya. Until then stems and leaves become wilted leaves tubers in the ground.
If conditions permit, the vegetative phase will be followed by the emergence of generative phase of compound interest that replaces the withered stems and leaves earlier. The second phase of this is happening repeatedly and continuously.
When the corpse flower through a phase of generative (flower blossom), the highest rate is out strong scent like the smell of carrion. The stench is functioning as a decoy for the flies and beetles which these insects will contribute to the process of pollination. When flowering occurs during fertilization, it will form a red colored fruit with seeds on the former base of the flower. And the dead flowers and then re-enter the vegetative phase.
There are about 170 species of dead flowers around the world. Species that are well known in Indonesia include the following:
* Amorphophallus titanum (carrion flower giant, Titan arum, a giant suweg)
* Amorphophallus gigas (giant Sumatran Amorphophallus)

* Amorphophallus beccarii; Amorphophallus campanulatus (suweg); Amorphophallus oncophyllus (iles-iles, porang, ileus)
