Propagation techniques and Dahlia Flower Care

A. Propagation Techniques

For the propagation techniques of interest dahllia is done several ways, because the structure of plants are relatively easy to reproduce, then the following ways can be done by yourself easily.

1.  Generative propagation by seed

Propagation is done on a mini dahlia flower color to get a new and more varied. Seeds derived from plants healthy dahlias aged 5 months. Seeds are sown over the prepared seedbed. Nursery beds are made on the ground with a width of 1 meter and length depending on the land with the North-South direction. Beds are made from a mixture of humus, cow manure and soil in the ratio 1:1:1. High bed 5 inches. Seeds spread evenly over seedbed and lightly covered with soil.

In the dry season beds covered with banana leaves or sacks that have been washed clean so that moisture bed awake. Seedbed should be given shade when nursery done in the rainy season. Shade of transparent plastic as high as 80 inches on the east side and 60 inches on the west side. Once the seeds germinate and leaves the two strands, the cover (banana leaf / rag) was opened. Seedlings maintained in the nursery to perfect 2-leaved fruit, root crops at these stage have not touched the bottom bed and moving to 18x15 inch transparent polybag containing a mixture of husk and cow manure (6:1). After six strands of leafy plants, carried out the second moving into 30x20 inch transparent polybag containing the same medium. Inside the polybag is maintained until flowering plants during the 1.5 to 2 months.

2. Vegetative propagation by cuttings

To multiplication by cuttings conducted at a mini dahlias to earn interest with the same color and shape and for large dahlias that can not be seeded. Material cuttings taken from the axillary buds the size of 70-10 cm. To avoid disease, use cutting knife / sharp, clean knife to cut the shoots. Nurseries conducted in a transparent 30x20 cm polybag containing a mixture of rice hulls and manure (6:1) and kept until ready for sale without moving for 3 days.

3. Vegetative propagation of bulbs

For the propagation of this one done on a cactus and semi-cactus dahlias. Tubers taken from plants aged 7 months. To get the tubers, plant stems that have finished flowering the first cut to 10 cm from the ground. Soil excavated and removed along with a sweet main stem, and tuber planted in a planting medium that has been provided.

 B. Maintenance Seeding

After performing the multiplication as shown above, a new crop sowing or commonly called the seed should be treated intensively. To get a quality crop, the good seeds must be well guarded.

1. Plants in the Nursery

Over the seed is in place nursery should be watered once a day and not given fertilizer because there's enough food obtained from the beds. weeding
weeds must be done very carefully so as not to damage the seedlings are still fragile.

2. Plants in polybag

Plants watered 1-2 days (morning-afternoon) unless it rained. Weeds are rarely grown, if there are weeded by revoked or taken with a small hoe. To prevent pests / diseases, plants sprayed with pesticides two weeks at the turn of the dry-rainy season and the rainy season. Leaf manure or fertilizer sowing and administered once a week.

The best results will be obtained by performing propagation techniques and the proper treatment. Besides used as ornamental plants, dahlias have other uses, for more details, please read the previous article.
